B.E.T. (Booty Entertainment TV)
B.E.T. (2011) – Mixed media and wooden star on wood panel – 48 X 24 inches – This contemporary mixed media piece speaks of the critical role of media and their mostly negative portrayals of Black culture. The birth of B.E.T. was supposed to signal the dawn of a new era of black owned media, with an independent news division, sports coverage and public affairs programming. What began as a promising and ambitious venture designed to showcase the Black experience devolved into 24 hours of raunchy music videos. B.E.T. programming introduced many a white suburbanite to the stereotypical big booty Black female and her animalistic man/boy lover.
