Bob and Jimi

Bob and Jimi (2011) – Oil on wood panel – 48 X 24 inches – This contemporary social art piece is a dual image of famous musicians Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix surrounded by a cloud of marijuana smoke. To focus on the smoking is to miss the point of this piece.  This is not an endorsement of substance abuse but an ode to the intoxicating quality of their music and the freedom with which they lived.  I’m using marijuana smoke in the same way that some people claim to use the Confederate flag to represent rebelliousness in general, as opposed to blatant racism. The smoke is a symbol of rebelliousness, spirituality and individual autonomy.

This is an original oil painting on wood panel, not a print or copy.
